Embryologist

In 1981, Jane received her BS in Animal Science along with an Associate degree as an Animal Technician Registered (ATR) from Sul Ross State University (SRSU) in Alpine, Texas. She spent the next year working as an animal technician at the Alpine Veterinary Clinic before going on to finish her MS degree at SRSU in 1984. She was immediately employed by Granada Genetics where her duties included bovine embryo freezing, splitting, embryo sexing, IVF and was instrumental in being the first technician to embryo clone cattle. She trained all personnel in bovine embryo nuclear transfer as well as writing the first SOP training manual. From 1996-1999 she was lab director for Ultimate Genetics who in 1998 partnered with Cyagra and Advanced Cell Technology to produce the first transgenic cloned calves. In 1999 she was employed as a research associate at Texas A&M University where she played a key role in cloning the first cat and Boer goat. In 2001 she became self-employed, working as a private consultant/technician/ instructor for several ET facilities (Bovine: Ovagenix, Brazos Valley Genetics, Ovitra Biotechnology, Advanced Genetic Services, Trans Ova Genetics, GenOvations, JKBovaGenix in India; Caprine: TexStar Genetics and Global Genetics) as well as other private institutions and Universities. In 2018, she was instrumental in creating a sheep model for the human disease Hypophosphatasia by injecting sheep zygotes using the CRISPRcas9 system. She has been a guest speaker for several years for both IETS and AETA/CETA conferences in addition to training webinars and videos. She has authored and co-authored many peer-reviewed abstracts and articles for publication and continues to train students in embryology, in vitro fertilization, cryopreservation, and micromanipulation (splitting, microinjections, nuclear transfer). Recently, she has taken the position as the Senior embryologist/Researcher at Equine IVF, Tomball, Texas.
